1-6 to Alexa Glatch of the United States.
Flavia is still in the doubles with Maria Kirilenko and they play

is through to the 2nd round in Rome after she defeated Tsvetana
Pironkova of Bulgaria 6-7 6-4 6-1. After Flavia's win in singles
and doubles in Stuttgart, she didn't have a day off after playing the
doubles final yesterday.
Flavia will be busy tomorrow as she will play singles and doubles.
In the 2nd
round Flavia will play Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.
Flavia has never played Shvedova before.

draw for the Internazionali BNL D'Italia in Rome, Italy has been
released and Flavia is seeded #12 and will play Tsvetana Pironkova of
Bulgaria in the 1st round. They have never played before.
Flavia is seeded to meet #7 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the
3rd round.
Last year Flavia reached the 2nd round here and her best result was
reaching the quarters 3 years ago.

Flavia's
run in Stuttgart came to run at the hands of world #1 Dinara Safina of
Russia. Flavia lost 6-3 5-7 0-6. Even though Flavia lost she
had a good week in beating 2 top 10 players (Petrova and Jankovic).
Despite today's loss Flavia is in the doubles final with Gisela Dulko.
They play Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Nadia Petrova.

scored a second consecutive win over world #3 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia
to reach the semis in Stuttgart. Flavia won 2-6 6-4 6-4 to score
her 2nd top 10 win of 2009.
In the semis, Flavia will play #1 seed Dinara Safina of Russia.
Flavia is 0-5 in the series but hopefully the 0 will change to a 1.

draw for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Germany has been released and
Flavia is unseeded and will play Anna Chakvetadze of Russia in the 1st
round. Flavia has played the Russian twice before and leads the
series 2-0, the most recent meeting being in Fed Cup this weekend which
Flavia won 6-4 6-0.

This event will be played on red clay and will be the first ever WTA tournament played on clay indoors.
The event previously has been played on hardcourts and Flavia lost
in the 1st round last year.
Italy into Fed Cup final!

Italy
is through to it's 3rd Fed Cup final in 4 years as the defeated
defending champions Russia 3-1.
After winning both singles matches on Saturday, all Italy needed to
do was win 1 of the 3 matches today. Flavia couldn't get the
crucial win as she was defeated by Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-6 4-6 6-2 but
Francesca Schiavone got the win by defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
7-6 4-6 6-2. Well done Italy!
Flavia defeats
Chakvetadze to give Italy lead

Flavia
has given Italy a perfect start in its Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal
clash with Russia in Castellaneta Marina. Flavia overwhelmed Anna
Chakvetadze 64 60 to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Flavia needed only 67 minutes to defeat her opponent, dropping only nine
points in a one-sided second set.

will play a leading role in the
Fed Cup semi-final against
Russia. Flavia will play 2 singles matches against Svetlana
Kuznetsova and Anna Chakvetadze. Flavia will open the
semi-final on Saturday against Chakvetadze. They have played once
before way back in a challenger in Italy in 2004 and Flavia won in 3
sets.
The tie will be played in Castellaneta Marina on clay in Italy and
Russia need to win 3 of the 5 matches to get to the final against the
Czech Republic or the United States.

the #15 seed and has a bye in the 1st round. In the 2nd round,
Flavia will play either Kateryna Bondarenko of the Ukraine or Maria
Kirilenko of Russia. Flavia has played Kirilenko twice before and
trails the series 0-2 and has played Bondarenko twice before and the

qualifier Angela Haynes of the United States 4-6 6-4 6-1.

Ivanovic won in straight sets.

Williams of the United States 1-6 2-6.
After playing well for most of the tournament, Flavia couldn't bring

In Flavia's 6th straight Acapulco final she will play #1 seed Venus

Flavia leads the series 3-2. Flavia won their only meeting on clay

Flavia is the #2 seed and will play US junior Melanie Oudin, Flavia has
never played Oudin before. The 1st seed Flavia can meet is #6 seed

Flavia is currently #11 in the race rankings behind Agnieszka
Radwanksa but there are not enough points to catch her. Flavia is
currently ahead of Nadia Petrova in the race to be the 2nd reserve to go
to the WTA Championships in Doha, and needs to either have the same or
better result in Quebec City as Petrova is top seed.

will partner Simon Bolleli at this year’s Hyundai Hopman Cup which
begins on January 3rd 2009. Italy becomes the sixth team confirmed for
this year’s event along with Australia, Russia, Germany, Slovakia and
France.
The Hopman Cup is a mixed team event of 8 teams of 1 male and female
player. The teams are spilt into 2 groups of 4. Each country plays
each other once (1 men's singles, 1 women's singles and a mixed doubles)
and the top 2 teams of each group play in the final.

loses Zurich final

Flavia
lost her 2nd tier 2 final in Zurich today as she lost 6-7 2-6 to #3 seed
Venus Williams of the United States in 1 hour and 31 minutes.
Despite the loss, Flavia had one of the best weeks of her career by
reaching the final and defeating the world #1 Jelena Jankovic.
Flavia played an excellent first 12 games and was never threatened on
her serve and did have some chances on Williams serve but the set was
decided by a tie-break which proved to be a turning point which Williams
won 7-1. Williams gained momentum in the 2nd set and Flavia lost
her level from the 1st set as Flavia lost the set 6-2.
Flavia will now rise to a career high of #14 when the new WTA rankings
are released on Monday.

Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 6-3 7-6. Flavia won the match in
a tie-break 8-6 when Medina Garrigues hit a forehand long.

Jelena Jankovic 5-7 6-3 6-3 in 2 hours and 28 minutes to reach the
quarters in Zurich. Flavia took one of the best wins of her career
with an ace on matchpoint. After the match, Flavia said:
"Last week I didn't have a
lot of luck and today I was more aggressive."
In the quarters, Flavia will play Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, Flavia
has played Srebotnik 4 times before and the series is tied 2-2.
Incidentally 2 of those matches were in Zurich in 2004 and 2005 and both
had a win each.
