US Open
Quarter-Final Interview
8th September 2009
Q.
You played with tremendous heart out there tonight, and the
crowd really responded. It was a very electric match. I know it
wasn't the result that maybe you wanted, but what do you come
away from that match and this tournament knowing about yourself
and your heart?
FLAVIA PENNETTA: Well, you know, I'm really happy about this
tournament, about the season, everything. It's going to be very
good. I think today was very great match. I didn't have a lot of
chance. I have just two, and I didn't make it.
But she was playing really great, really aggressive. When you
play with this player, you have to play always on the best
tennis and you cannot make mistake. Today I make few mistake in
important point, and she just take the chance to close the
match.
But I think I give everything on the court tonight, you know. I
was like running and fight until the end. It's the only ‑‑ it's
the only way to win against this kind of player. And I was
there, but tonight was not my night.

Flavia's US
Open dream over
8th September 2009
Flavia's
2009 US Open campaign is over at the hands of defending champion
and #2 seed Serena Williams of the United States. Flavia
lost 4-6 3-6 in 1 hour and 15 minutes in the quarters.

outcome of the match. Flavia was playing a player who was
serving well and was consistent on the baseline but she was
fighting until the conclusion of the match. Flavia had
chances to break Williams serve at the beginning of the 2nd set
but it was too tough to break one of the best serves in women's
tennis.
Flavia can be proud of her run on the American hardcourts,
having won a title in Los Angeles, 2 semis in Cincinnati and New
Haven and a quarter-final appearance here. |

because always when you finish a tournament it's like everything

feeling all week, it's going completely down.
So Monday I was pretty tired. But I think I recovered pretty
good, because I played three or four matches, pretty high
intensity against Venus, and already yesterday was very tough
for me.
But today she was playing much better of me. I was a little bit
tired, of course, but I didn't lose for that. In front was like
No. 1 in the world, and she was playing unbelievable.
